the Word of "I Am"

I read Psalm 1 afresh just a couple of days ago. I cannot get if off my mind. Let me share a few verses from the Passion Translation  (TPT) – the version I will come back to again and again.

What delight comes to the one who follows God’s ways!
He won’t walk in step with the wicked,
nor share the sinner’s way,
nor be found sitting in the scorner’s seat.
His pleasure and passion is remaining true to the Word of “I Am,”
meditating day and night in the true revelation of light.
He will be standing firm like a flourishing tree
planted by God’s design,
deeply rooted by the brooks of bliss,
bearing fruit in every season of his life.
He is never dry, never fainting,
ever blessed, ever prosperous…
But how different it is for the righteous!
The Lord embraces their paths as they move forward
while the way of the wicked leads only to doom.
Psalm 1:1-3, 6

God’s ways – how might we know them? The Word! My pleasure and passion are pursuant in remaining aligned with Him and His Word! The Word is my constant meditation.

the Word Alive

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart (Hebrews 4:12, NIV).

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:4-5, NIV)

I love this same verse (2 Corinthians 10:4-5) is worded in TPT.

For although we live in the natural realm, we don’t wage a military campaign employing human weapons, using manipulation to achieve our aims. Instead, our spiritual weapons are energized with divine power to effectively dismantle the defenses behind which people hide.[d] 5 We can demolish every deceptive fantasy[e] that opposes God and break through every arrogant attitude that is raised up in defiance of the true knowledge of God. We capture, like prisoners of war, every thought[f] and insist that it bow in obedience to the Anointed One. (2 Corinthians 10:4-5, TPT)

The Word is alive!  It has the power to breathe life – life to my lukewarm faith, life to my struggling doubts, life to places I thought were once long dead.  The Word carries power!  I can walk into a room and carry His living Truth with me.  It’s not a dead word I read, it’s the living Word I breathe.  It’s not a book read to simply understand history.  It’s a book read to give form to why I exist.  It’s a book that tells me who I am.  It’s a book that tells me who He is.  It’s THE book that tells me how to live!

The result?  I will be deeply rooted, flourishing, planted by a divine Creator, the Author of life!

And then, through the overflow of what He has given into my life, I in turn pour out my life as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to Him.  As I surrender my life into His hands and allow HIM to take the lead, THIS becomes my act of worship!

Beloved friends, what should be our proper response to God’s marvelous mercies? I encourage you to surrender yourselves to God to be his sacred, living sacrifices. And live in holiness, experiencing all that delights his heart. For this becomes your genuine expression of worship.  Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you,[a] but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.  (Romans 12:1-2, TPT)

By committing to being aligned with the Word – His heart, His will – I choose daily to be transformed by HIM, allowing HIM to redefine how I think and how I live!

PRAYER:  Lord, I want to live generously as the One who gave up His own life, so that I might truly live; in turn, I want to be “pressed down, shaken together, and running over” (Luke 6:38, NIV)! I want to be fully surrendered to You!  Lord, I lay me at Your feet – have Your way.
