Ephesians Prayer Guide – Day 21

Ephesians Prayer Guide - Day 21

We are called to work as if we were serving the Lord and not man. May we be people who grow in humility. May He grow us to be people who submit to authority, and submit to His authority.

Pray Ephesians 6:5-9

Those who are employed should listen to their employers and obey their instructions with great respect and honor. Serve them with humility in your hearts as though you were working for the Master.

6 Always do what is right and not only when others are watching, so that you may please Christ as his servants by doing his will. 7 Serve your employers wholeheartedly and with love, as though you were serving Christ and not men. 8 Be assured that anything you do that is beautiful and excellent will be repaid by our Lord, whether you are an employee or an employer.

9 And to the caretakers of the flock I say, do what is right with your people by forgiving them when they offend you, for you know there is a Master in heaven that shows no favoritism. TPT™

The message here is not complicated.  We are called to honor and respect those we work for and to whom we are accountable.  The thing to keep as the umbrella under which we operate – is to work as though you were working for the Master, “doing the will of God from your heart; rendering service with goodwill, as to the Lord, and not [only] to men” (Ephesians 6:6-7 AMP)!

Obviously, this does not take into account if you are working for an employer who who asking you to do something that is contrary to the Word of God – that is altogether a different matter.  Our first commitment is to the Lord.  Should a situation arise where you are being asked to do something that is contrary to how the Lord calls you to live, I believe He is and will be faithful to lead you in the way you should go.  The Word is not compromising.  The Lord would not be clear in His Word and then give allowances for when we can live otherwise.  Ultimately, seek Him; and then seek wise, godly counsel as you navigate this present page in your story.

You must do this not only ·while they are watching you [L with eye-service], ·to please them [L as people-pleasers]. But as ·slaves [bondservants] of Christ, do ·what God wants [God’s will] ·with all your [or from the] heart. 7 Do your work ·with enthusiasm [willingly; cheerfully]. Work as if you were serving the Lord, not people. Ephesians 6:6-7 EXB

What if we were a people who lived for an audience of ONE?

PRAYER: Pray for your your role as an employee (a stay at home mom/dad and wife/husband fit into this).  Pray through the passage – that you would honor the Lord as if you were working for Him and Him alone.  Pray for your employer and boss.
