Ephesians Prayer Guide - Day 16
Let us be imitators of God, living surrendered lives to HIS leading. Let worship fill our hearts and spill out into our words. Pray for a revival in private and public worship.
Pray Ephesians 4:25-5:5
So discard every form of dishonesty and lying so that you will be known as one who always speaks the truth, for we all belong to one another.
26 But don’t let the passion of your emotions lead you to sin! Don’t let anger control you or be fuel for revenge, not for even a day. 27 Don’t give the slanderous accuser, the Devil, an opportunity to manipulate you! 28 If any one of you has stolen from someone else, never do it again. Instead, be industrious, earning an honest living, and then you’ll have enough to bless those in need.
29 And never let ugly or hateful words come from your mouth, but instead let your words become beautiful gifts that encourage others; do this by speaking words of grace to help them.
30 The Holy Spirit of God has sealed you in Jesus Christ until you experience your full salvation. So never grieve the Spirit of God or take for granted his holy influence in your life. 31 Lay aside bitter words, temper tantrums, revenge, profanity, and insults. 32 But instead be kind and affectionate toward one another. Has God graciously forgiven you? Then graciously forgive one another in the depths of Christ’s love.
Be imitators of God in everything you do, for then you will represent your Father as his beloved sons and daughters. 2 And continue to walk surrendered to the extravagant love of Christ, for he surrendered his life as a sacrifice for us. His great love for us was pleasing to God, like an aroma of adoration—a sweet healing fragrance.
3 And have nothing to do with sexual immorality, lust, or greed—for you are his holy ones and let no one be able to accuse you of them in any form. 4 Guard your speech. Forsake obscenities and worthless insults; these are nonsensical words that bring disgrace and are unnecessary. Instead, let worship fill your heart and spill out in your words.
5 For it has been made clear to you already that the kingdom of God cannot be accessed by anyone who is guilty of sexual sin, or who is impure or greedy—for greed is the essence of idolatry. How could they expect to have an inheritance in Christ’s kingdom while doing those things? TPT™ (emphasis is mine)
The Bible is FULL of reminders that speak to the power of our words. And if you didn’t go any further than the passage above, you would have more than enough to chew on for a lifetime. We will be held accountable for every careless word we speak (Matthew 12:36), and yet how often do we fail to bridle our tongues (Psalm 141:3). We are often careless and practicing no self control (I am fully speaking for myself here).
The power of life and death are in the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). Trinity Grace posted a beautiful Victory Prayer in regards to this (click on her name to take you there). Let’s commit to:
- Taking every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). Never let ugly, hateful words come from your mouth, but only ones that encourage and build up (Ephesians 4:29)
- Be slow to speak and slow to anger (James 1:19). Don’t let the passion of emotions lead you to sin. Don’t let anger control you (Ephesians 4:26). Lay aside bitter words, temper tantrums, revenge, profanity and insults (Ephesians 4:31, 5:4)
- Practice patience, kindness, gentleness and self control (Galatians 5: 22-23)
- Forgive as Christ as forgiven you. Be imitators of God, surrendered to His example and extravagant love (Ephesians 4:32-5:2)
- Let worship fill your heart and spill out in your words (Ephesians 5:4)
Pray Psalm 19 (pray through all of it as you are led):
Without this revelation-light (the Word),
how would I ever detect the waywardness of my heart?
Lord, forgive my hidden flaws whenever you find them.
13 Keep cleansing me, God,
and keep me from my secret, selfish sins;
may they never rule over me!
For only then will I be free from fault
and remain innocent of rebellion.
14 So may the words of my mouth, my meditation-thoughts,
and every movement of my heart be always pure and pleasing,
acceptable before your eyes,
my only Redeemer, my Protector-God. Psalm 19:12-14 TPT™
