Family Challenge 9/9/25

Welcome Firebrand Families!

I am so excited you have joined us for this leg of our Firebrand journey!

Begin to get into the habit of talking about what your family learns at Firebrand Academy, even if it is simply on the way home. The greatest gains will come as you allow the things of the Kingdom to infiltrate your family culture; we will try to amplify those points in the conversations and lessons here. I will provide tools for you to use if you choose. The tools are to extend the conversations beyond Tuesday FBA. I will also send home questions each week for kids to use in their journals. I encourage you to find moments to build these into your week. Every week I will give you bullet points of ideas – use one, use them all, modify them, use your own…

·       Memorize Mark 10:14b-15, as much or as little as seems right for your children.  Find the story in your Storybook Bible. Have your children retell the story. Have them act it out. Post it somewhere prominent in your home. Talk about it. Help them to understand how much Jesus cares for children and how much simpler it is for kids to understand the kingdom. Ask questions, ask the why. Help the story come alive. Use the declaration to help your children speak TRUTH over themselves.

“The people brought children to Jesus, hoping he might touch them. The disciples shooed them off. But Jesus was irate and let them know it: “Don’t push these children away. Don’t ever get between them and me. These children are at the very center of life in the kingdom. Mark this: Unless you accept God’s kingdom in the simplicity of a child, you’ll never get in.” Then, gathering the children up in his arms, he laid his hands of blessing on them.”

– Mark 10:13-16 MSG (I love the visual of this story form!)

He did not like his followers telling the children not to come. So he said to them, “Let the little children come to me. Don’t stop them, because God’s kingdom belongs to people who are like these little children. The truth is, you must accept God’s kingdom like a little child accepts things, or you will never enter it.”

-Mark 10:14b-15 ERV (Better for kids to memorize part or all)

DECLARATION: I AM A CHILD OF GOD. I AM FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE. I AM MADE TO CARRY THE KINGDOM WHEREVER I GO.

·       Share a God story with your children. We want this to become a normal rhythm with families. Share and celebrate where you have seen God move.

I am working to post these Family Connections on my blog each week; bookmark it so you can find it. Some prefer paper, some prefer paperless. When your family has missed a week (or you forgot to pick up a paper), you can still catch up with some “take home” points. My ultimate goal is to establish a password protected section so I can post more than simply Family Connections (but this is NOT my area of expertise – feel free to let me know if you might be able to help), but until then…

Week 1 is already posted.

Feedback is always welcome and encouraged! And if it’s something extra that you are asking for, consider if there is a way you could help towards that end (or other ways).

Suggested questions for journals (use any or all or have them journal about something you think is more relevant to them:

What am I most excited for with Firebrand Academy? Is there anything I am concerned or nervous about?

Ms. Suni talked about 4 important things that make Firebrand Academy what it is:

·       Firebrand Academy is a practice field

·       Firebrand Academy is the body

·       Firebrand Academy is built on the Word

·       Firebrand Academy listens for His voice.

Is there something on this list that is new to you? Is there something you don’t understand very well or want to learn more about?

If there is anything you want to share with Ms. Suni, have your mom or dad take a pic and send to me!

Write about or draw a “God story” or about a time God answered a prayer. Learn to “tune in” to see Him at work in your life – every day!
